As a part of this years Enterprise activities, 37 students from schools in the area ventured off on a business trip (funded by EnterpriseGY) to our twinned town of Rambouillet. We left bright and early on Sunday and with a full day of travelling ahead we all set our minds to enjoying the views out of the coach window.

We arrived at our destination Sunday evening, unpacked and all met for dinner in a local French restaurant (surprisingly no snails on the menu). The atmosphere was relaxed and this gave the students from 6 local schools and Gt Yarmouth College the chance to chat with each other about what the next 4 days had in store for us all. Everyone was excited to get started on the busy schedule.

We had a relatively early night as we had to be up early the next morning for a day-trip to Paris.

Stay posted for updates on the rest of the trip… coming soon.

As part of the enterprise programme at Oriel 5 students took part in an apprentice style challenge. Firstly all local schools in the area were invited to the Atlantis Arena on the Great Yarmouth seafront. All of the students from Oriel, Caister High and Lynn Grove  were then given an interesting tour of the Arena and were even given access to the famous tower (the views were breathtaking). This was followed up by a delicious lunch in their restaurant and then an afternoon of brainstorming within their teams to come up with an idea or ideas to make the already popular teenager disco on Friday nights an even bigger success.

Our students came up with the idea of selling Glow products ranging from Glow sticks to Glow ears for the girls! The boys researched the products, websites and completed a business plan which was then submitted to the manager of the Arena for his approval. The management then released a loan of £75 to each participating school. Our students sourced a brilliant supplier and put in their shopping list. They then worked out the profit that could be made on the goods and put advertisments around the school letting the students know about the forthcoming disco and what was on offer.

On the evening the boys were very excited and arrived raring to go and enthusiastic about their idea, equally Caister had come up with a good idea too, taking photos of friends having a good time and then converting the photo into a keyring.

The evening was a great success and all those who participated have shown an interest in repeating it later on in August.

Well done Max, Liam, Jamie, Callum and Ryan and a big thank you to Jackie for making it happen. Also a huge thanks go to the management at The Arena.
