News for

BlogEvery week at Oriel is so different in so many ways, yet anyone who enters the teaching profession does it knowing that each day is different from the next – and that’s what makes it so enjoyable.

I was thrilled to learn that our Extended Schools Coordinator, Sonia Remblance, has managed to secure some extra cash for us so we are able to offer Oriel students a cheerleading/gymnastics course after school. This is just the start of us trying to give you more to do once the set lesson hours have finished. I do hope you all know that you can work in C05 after school until 4.30pm? The mentors base themselves in Mr T’s room so not only do you have computer access, but you can also have a helping hand with your work in a really positive environment….

Mr Thompson and Mrs Blundell have both invited parents to join you in school to support learning – this is fantastic news. If your parents/carers want to come in and visit lessons, they should get in touch with me, especially if they have a skill they could share with you and your friends in the lesson. One of the parents is coming to teach cake decorating to the Catering students – what a wonderful opportunity!

Friday was truly heart-warming in many ways – I feel so proud that so many of you tried to raise money for those less fortunate than yourselves – I’d like to thank Bella, especially, for her day of silence!! I also watched some of the anti-bullying videos from Flexi-Friday and was wowed by their relevance and their excellence – you have some serious talent!

Keep up the good work – and show the people who support you that you value them…..

We were very lucky to be invited to Rambouillet town hall on day 3 by the Mayor and her associates to exchange gifts and officially meet as part of the twinning of our towns.

Rambouillet lies on the edge of the vast Forest of Rambouillet (Forêt de Rambouillet or Forêt de l’Yveline), and is famous for its historical castle, the Château de Rambouillet, which hosted several international summits. Due to its proximity to Paris and Versailles, Rambouillet has long been an occasional seat of government.

Rambouillet is twinned with:

We arrived at the town hall and were greeted by several dignatories, they formally welcomed us to Rambouillet and we exchanged gifts. We handed over a picture drawn by a student and they gave us a signed copy of a book about Rambouillet.

In the afternoon we were very lucky to visit the amazing Versailles palace, this gave the students the opportunity to browse the palaces grounds and take in the outstanding gardens and scenery.

So, first “The Mazer” by Brad Lacey took the internet by storm… now prepare yourself for the revolution that is “Mini Mike” by Brogan Lawes.

This is an example of the high standard of flash animations being created. See all the tricks and skills Mike has in this great little animation. Once you have tried it out then please leave your comments… enjoy!

If you like what you see why not give it a go yourself in the Kando centre or ask your ICT teacher when you will be learning this and many other great skills in your lessons.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I have recently received further guidance for you in terms of how to prevent, and how to deal with, ‘Swine Flu’. You will find the key parts of this national guidance below.

I assume that all members of our school community have good hygeine habits i.e hand washing but unfortunately this is not always the case. In fact, some of our cleaning staff have been quite upset by some students lack of care for their environment – without going into too much unpleasant detail, some students have not been treating the “public” areas with a great deal of respect.

Please would you discuss good hygeine with your child to ensure we do everything we can to promote good health for all.

The formal guidance is attached.

Thank you for your support.
