What Does Artsmark Mean to Oriel?
To qualify for Artsmark we have to have a good provision of all subjects involved in the scheme. Oriel does, in fact, have provision that will qualify us for the Gold Award but we do not qualify in other areas, at that level, yet!
The scheme says we have to have the following timing:
|
Subject |
Gold Artsmark requirements |
Oriel time |
|
Art & Design |
36hrs in each of Yrs 8 & 9 |
46hrs in each |
|
Dance |
15hrs in each of Yrs 8 & 9 |
36hrs in each of Yrs 8 & 9 |
|
Drama |
15hrs in each of Yrs 8 & 9 |
36hrs in each of Yrs 8 & 9 |
|
Music |

At Key Stage 4 (GCSE subjects) we are expected to provide 4 Artsmark subjects in each year group. Here at Oriel we offer 9 for each year group – again well above that needed for the Gold Award.
The scheme means we have to monitor the students’ work during the college day, in extra-curricular time and how we celebrate success in any Arts subject.
We have expanded our exhibition venues – now showing students’ work in the Great Yarmouth Galleries every summer, as well as the Christmas exhibition at the college. There is also a stills gallery on the college website, with a video gallery planned (to show dance, drama & music).
Artsmark will also provide us with evidence of our commitment to the Arts, so that we are more easily able to apply for a second specialist bid in Performing Arts to complement our already successful bid in Mathematics and Computing.
