What is Artsmark?

TechnologyArtsmark is a national project, run by the Arts Council of England, designed to raise the profile and provision of the Arts in schools; primary, secondary and tertiary (post 16yrs).

The belief of the project designers is that if a school offers enough time for studying the arts, students’ skill levels will improve, along with their confidence and their self-esteem (the way they feel about themselves – the feel-good factor).

At Oriel Specialist Mathematics and Computing College the subjects which are covered by Artsmark are:

Art

Design & Realisation

Graphics

Photography

Textiles

Dance

Drama

Music

Media Studies

English – Creative Writing

PaintWe applied to become an Artsmark school, for the first time, last year and received the third tier award, Artsmark (Bronze), which is valid for three years.

Since that application we have increased our staffing & we are in the process of improving our teaching spaces.  We also have plans to build a purpose-built Dance Studio, which could also be used as a Community Theatre and Cinema.  All of this means that we are in a stronger position and have already completed an application to improve our award to Silver.
