Our Student Council

We believe that the voices of our students should be heard – they must have the opportunity to tell us what they think of their college and how best to make it world-class. All students are welcome to volunteer to join our Student Council. Using the House System (Avocet, Grebe, Heron and Kingfisher), we ask representatives to create their own agendas, but are also asked to discuss certain college wide issues.

We are proud of the achievements of our Student Council – in fact, HMI inspectors described them as being "top notch". They have worked tirelessly to encourage healthy eating (including the purchase of a new water fountain) and have played an active part in consultation for changes to college policy. The most recent chair of Student Council, Francesca Tedstone, includes her comments below:

“The Student Council is an extremely successful asset to the college with a dedicated and hardworking team of students who meet once each week to discuss important issues such as healthy eating, keeping the college tidy and school rewards."

"We also run a full Student Council meeting once every term to discuss wider issues of the college. Recently, the Student Council has managed to promote healthy eating with a three-day event where students were able to sample food and watch a professional chef at work.”

In the next academic year, we plan to involve the Student Council more in evaluating teaching and learning. We want our students to learn independently so they are able to cope with the demands of their future employment and studies.
