Every Child Matters

Every Child Matters LogoAt Oriel we are very proud of the amount of support we can offer to encourage our students to develop to their full potential.

All students have individual learning needs and some have Special Educational Needs (SEN) as identified by the National Guidelines.

We provide support in the following ways:

  • For students who have found their previous school life difficult, at Oriel the curriculum is delivered by highly qualified staff in small supportive groups.
  • In Years 10 and 11 these students will often move to a work related learning programme built upon individual learning needs.
  • We provide a qualified team of Learning Support Assistants who work in all areas of the college.
  • Expertise in SEN is a priority for us and our training programmes for all staff reflect that.
  • A team of Learning Mentors support students through Individual Support Programmes that are tailored to their meet their personal needs.
  • Learning rooms and adjoining accommodation provide help and assistance away from mainstream lessons. This area of the college is staffed at all times and is open to all students.
  • SEN information is collated and passed to staff to ensure that individual needs are catered for.

We work as closely as possible with the parents of our students. Our support is available for the community and we can offer help and guidance in dealing with the complex issues encompassing Special Educational Needs. There are direct dial telephone numbers for the SEN Office, the Student Support Office and the Mentoring Team.
