Theatre Block
For the past 2 years we have been looking at ways that the lack of practical space at Oriel can be enlarged. The first plan was to bring in a mobile classroom, equipped as a Dance Studio, and park it in the area between the PE Changing Rooms and the Hall. It wasn’t permitted.
However, this idea got bigger as we realised that it wasn’t just Dance that needed space to work but that most of the Creative and Expressive Arts subjects were struggling. Added to this there was the need for a performance space, where students could showcase the skills and talents they were demonstrating in lesson time. The idea for a Theatre, which could also screen films, was born. A facility that is desperately needed as a community focus as well as an Oriel necessity.
Once that idea had taken shape we explored other facilities that were needed; a crèche, a café, exhibition space.
Pure Architects were then called in to transform the idea into plans, from which we could seek grant funding.
It is from this point that we are moving forward.
